…but god… Episode 183

2 Peter 1: 1-3

Transcript

“Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, for His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”

2 Peter 1:1-3 NASB2020

In the prologue to Peter’s second letter, he identifies himself as a “bond-servant” some versions say just “servant” some say “slave”. Whatever the term used, Peter is saying he fully and completely belongs to Christ!  It’s interesting that some translations use different words because being just a servant meant you got paid a very low wage, while a bond servant or slave meant that the Master owned you for a time agreed upon to pay off debt, or it could be for life. All translations of this word come down to one significant meaning; our goal as followers of Christ is to serve with all we are for our Master who is Christ the Lord.

If we are truly all in for Him we must do what He asks of us no matter the cost. We must also know what He asks of us through prayer, reading of the word and fellowship with others. Sometimes we plant, sometimes we get rid of the weeds and sometimes we get to reap in the harvest. As Paul in his letter to the Corinthians explains ““I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. Now the one who plants and the one who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each person must be careful how he builds on it. For no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 3:6-11 NASB2020

We are all part of the same team working with all we are to serve our Master, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. As good team members know as long as we get the win we should not care who gets the credit. So serve God with everything for our rewards are massive in heaven.

Lord we thank and praise you with all we are. Guide us and give us strength to love and serve you with all our heart soul mind and strength and help us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. We pray all this in Jesus Name Amen…

Shalom, Shalom Blessings. Press In and Press On!
