…but god James 1: 22-24
Transcript
“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.”
James 1:22-24 NASB2020
Remember the parable of the sower that Jesus preached about? He explains all those who have heard the word.
“And He told them many things in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow; and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and they sprang up immediately, because they had no depth of soil. But after the sun rose, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out. But others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.”
Matthew 13:3-8 NASB2020
The hearer of the word is the seed that fell among rocky ground. Jesus explains “The one sown with seed on the rocky places, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the word, immediately he falls away.”
Matthew 13:20-21 NASB2020
There are many who claim to be Christians, who like going to church, who like the social aspect of church, they like the music they like the sermons (if they don’t ask for $ or don’t ask for them to work in the nursery). When those challenges in sermons occur they leave and find another church that “fills their needs.” These types of “Christians” also leave the faith when trials or difficulties come. Because they put God in a box and question God. They say “no god would allow pain and suffering” or no god would send people to hell. I can’t serve a god who does that.
Don’t be like the seed among rocky ground. We must be doers of the word, cultivating and producing a crop that is exponential of what was planted in us. Jesus explained it this way “But the one sown with seed on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.”
Matthew 13:23 NASB2020
How is your cultivation and production going? Are you just sitting and enjoying God’s forgiveness and grace. Walking around with just that Helmet of Salvation. Or have you put on the full armor of God. Who are you mentoring, who are you doing life with and who is mentoring you? Where are you serving? How are you producing fruit? These are the questions we should be asking ourselves, so that we can best answer them and serve God the way he wants us to. Remember we are not doing to earn our salvation we are doing because it is what our Lord and Savior Jesus asks of us. He said “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 NASB2020
Then in Acts 1 he says “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NASB2020
Therefore, let us put on the full armor of God, and get in the game and be doers of God’s Holy word.
Lord we thank you for your perfect gift of eternal life with you. We know that you call us to action. Give us the strength and guidance to do as you have called us. We pray all this In Jesus Name Amen…
