James 2: 6-10

Transcript

“But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? Do they not blaspheme the good name by which you have been called? If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the Law as violators. For whoever keeps the whole Law, yet stumbles in one point, has become guilty of all.”

James 2:6-10 NASB2020

Once again James is making the point of how important the law is and how difficult it is to follow.  That is why we need Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished!”

Matthew 5:17-18 NASB2020

Jesus is the fulfillment of the promised Messiah!  Jesus conquered death through the forgiveness of sin by dying on the cross and then arising from the dead. His Kingdom is eternal and if we accept this free gift of grace and forgiveness we are heirs to His eternal kingdom.

We can keep trying to do good and follow the laws of Moses but at the end of the day without the power of the Holy Spirit our sinful nature will win out and we will fail in our goal of perfection. Therefore, we must reach for Jesus and His wonderful mercy and strive for perfection with His strength, for that is the only way to fulfill the law!

Lord, Most High. We thank and praise you for the forgiveness of sins and the perfect gift of eternal life with you. We humble ourselves and acknowledge that it is fruitless to try to be good without your power and help. Give us the strength to be humble and to seek your glory and do good in your name!  For we know every good work comes from you. We pray all these things In Jesus Name Amen!

Shalom, Shalom Blessings! Press In and Press On!
