…but god… Episode 12

Joshua 1: 6-9

Transcript

“Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:6-9 NASB1995

Last week we talked about Joshua and him being mentored by Moses. Now it is Joshua’s turn to lead.

Joshua has become the leader of the people of Israel because he’s turned his following into action. Therefore, he will lead his people into the promise land.

God instructs Joshua to be “strong and courageous” because God knows that Joshua will not only have to fight battles against the people living in the promise land, but also against his own people. Can you imagine telling the people of Israel “we are just going to March around the city of Jericho 7 times and God will take care of the rest”. I am sure they were all in 😉. Or even before that having to trust the word of Rahab the prostitute. Then Overcoming the the betrayal at Ai when the people did not listen to God’s instructions. Those instances are just a fraction of the reasons Joshua had to be strong and courageous.

Joshua was strong and courageous. He listened and trusted God. God also rewarded Joshua for his faithfulness.

We also must be strong and courageous. The church is under attack from all sides. Christians are being killed all over the world for their faith. We must stand firm and be like Joshua “strong and courageous” in the midst of the struggle!

Lord, we thank you for being true to your word. We thank you for your son, his death on the cross, his resurrection and ascension. Help us Lord to be strong and courageous in the storm. Help us to be a calming influence through our actions that portray your love, peace and understanding. Help our actions to point people to you and your saving grace. In Jesus Name Amen…

Blessings and Press In and Press On!
