…but god… Episode 20
Transcript
“But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”
Romans 3:21-26 NASB1995
Verse 25 is our verse for the day:
“whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;”
The word propitiation means to gain favor. In other religions the word is used for the person who has to do things to appease god or the gods. Before Christ’s sacrifice on the cross that is what the Jews did to have their sins forgiven.
But, God turns the word of propitiation upside down. He is winning and gaining our favor by the forgiveness of sin through the death of Christ and His subsequent resurrection.
That is so incredibly awesome! That the God of the universe wants relationship with us. Therefore, He gives us atonement (The word NIV Translation uses) for our sins, not one sin or some sins but all sin for all eternity. All we have to do is accept this free gift and follow the example of sacrificial love that Christ set. Then we must tell others of the atoning propitiation of our mighty, awesome, and incredible God!
Lord we thank you for the forgiveness of sins, for all eternity. We thank you that you want a relationship with us. Help us to follow the example of Jesus and live a life of sacrificial love through the power of The Holy Spirit.
In Jesus Name Amen…
Blessings and Press in and Press On!
