…but god… Episode 152
Transcript
“As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written: “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:14-16 NASB2020
Can we ever truly be Holy? What does the Bible say? What does Jesus say? I know those are 3 very difficult questions that Scholars and Theologians, (men and women who are much smarter than me) have been trying to answer for Thousands of years.
The word Holy appears over 600 times in the Bible. The website compellingtruth.org explains God’s Holiness this way. “The holiness of God refers to His being "set apart" or distinct from all of creation.” The site goes on to explain that in an individual “It describes something or someone set apart from all else.”
Let’s look at the scriptures that describe angels and what they are saying as they praise the Lord. “Seraphim were standing above Him, each having six wings: with two each covered his face, and with two each covered his feet, and with two each flew. And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of armies. The whole earth is full of His glory.”
Isaiah 6:2-3 NASB2020
Then through a vision John describes almost the same scene: “And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.”
Revelation 4:8 NASB2020
There is know doubt God is Holy and the personification of Holiness is Christ our Lord. He is described as Holy, Blameless and perfect. Paul in Ephesians says “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love”
Ephesians 1:3-4 NASB2020
Jesus said “If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him. “These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you…But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.”
John 14:23, 25-26 NASB2020
Jesus chose us, As we have learned, we have The Holy Spirit in us. We know this to be true because it is what Jesus said. Therefore, we are truly set apart. But only because we have laid aside all of ourselves and completely relied on Christ in us which is The Holy Spirit. This is the only way we can be Holy if we rely on Him. It is only through Christ and His perfect sacrifice that we are Holy and set apart.
Lord thank you for being perfectly Holy. Help us to seek you always and the power of your Holy Spirit, so that we too may be perfect and Holy. We pray these things in Jesus Name Amen.
Shalom, Shalom Blessings and Press in and Press On!
