…but god… Episode 162

1 Peter 2: 13-15

Transcript

“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God, that by doing right you silence the ignorance of foolish people.”

1 Peter 2:13-15 NASB2020

This scripture got a lot of play during Covid as Governments shut down everything including our ability to go to church. When this happens we are not subject to man’s law first. We are subject to God’s laws first. Therefore when the Government that God allowed to be In authority tells us how and when we have to worship then we should obey God’s laws first. Even if that means being put in jail or worse. Remember the two stories in Daniel. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego refused to bow to an idle of the King they were brought before the king and they “replied to the king, Nebuchadnezzar, we are not in need of an answer to give you concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods nor worship the golden statue that you have set up.”

Daniel 3:16-18 NASB2020

Or when Daniel was told he could not pray to God and was thrown into the lions den. “Then Daniel spoke to the king, “O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, since I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.” Then the king was very glad and gave orders for Daniel to be lifted up out of the den. So Daniel was lifted up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”

Daniel 6:21-23 NASB2020

Yes these 4 men were saved from death on earth when they disobeyed man’s laws. They knew that God’s laws superseded the laws of man. God saved them, but sometimes we as followers of Christ have lost our lives for obedience to God’s laws first. In fact that is the norm rather than the exception. Being a follower of Christ means we are all in, all the time for all circumstances. Too often we pick and choose when we “follow”. Jesus says if you do that you are not a follower. To the rich ruler he said sell everything and follow me! Than man could not serve two masters. Another man said I want to follow you but first I must bury my father. Another said I want to follow but let me say goodbye to my family. Each of these men put their family first then God. God must always be first no matter the cost. God reminds us to “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.”

Matthew 6:33 NASB2020

Let us listen and seek to follow the King and Creator of the Universe forever and always first.

Lord we praise your Holy Name. We thank you for your incredible gift of the forgiveness of sins through Christ’s death on the cross. Help us to let go of the burden of unforgiveness. Give us the strength we need to always seek you first. No matter the cost. For our treasure and reward is for eternity with you. We pray all this is Jesus Name Amen…
