…but god… Episode 166
Transcript
“You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered. To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, loving, compassionate, and humble; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you would inherit a blessing.”
1 Peter 3:7-9 NASB2020
Gentlemen, remember to serve and protect your wife. You are called to love her as Christ loves the church. What does that look like? The apostle Paul explains it this way in Ephesians 5 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.”
Ephesians 5:25-27 NASB2020
That kind of love is impossible to have on our own. The only way we can love like that is to press into the love of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is a sacrificial love that can truly only come through Christ.
Therefore, we must seek God and His will always.
Peter concludes this section regarding how we are to act and behave in the roles we have been placed in, here on earth, with encouragement. He says “be harmonious, sympathetic, loving, compassionate, and humble; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you would inherit a blessing.” The only way we do this is by running to the Father again and again. This brings to mind the song by Cody Carnes “Run to the Father”
Christ gave us a way to the Father. We now can come before Him and have fellowship with Him, so that we can be a witness for Him. We can love others as He loved us. We can be as He has called us to be “harmonious, sympathetic, loving, compassionate, and humble” so that others will see and hear that the gospel is alive and well in us!
Lord we praise your Holy and Perfect Name. Lord we thank you for Christ’s death on the cross and for the forgiveness of sins. We thank you also for conquering death and raising Him from the dead so that we may have eternal life with you. Help us to draw strength from you through the power of the Holy Spirit. Lord we pray for healing in this world. Use us as your followers to love and have compassion upon the lost. Give us strength and peace to love like you! We pray that you would heal the hurting. Help heal those who have lost loved ones to feel the peace that you give in times of tragedy. Help those who follow you to be peacemakers, to mourn with those who mourn so that Your Holy name may be glorified. We love you Lord and we praise your Holy Name. We pray in Jesus Name Amen…
