…but god… Episode 150

1 Peter 1: 12-13

Transcript

“It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look. Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

1 Peter 1:12-13 NASB2020

Verse 12 is such a great verse, because Peter explains sometimes there are mysteries in the scriptures that even the prophets and writers did not understand or know its full impact. They just followed what God told them. They were only a conduit to what God wanted to do through the words in which they spoke or wrote. As it says “not under themselves, but under us, they did minister.” This is such an inspiration. God has sometimes chosen to reveal through the sacred scriptures mysteries, beyond the comprehension of the writers. The Wycliffe commentary puts it this way “Here, then, is a gospel given through the prophets, proclaimed by preachers, endued with the Holy Spirit, a wonder to the angels.” The prophet Daniel addressed this question with God. God answered Daniel and basically said, my ways are my ways and you don’t need to understand, just have faith in my plans because I am God, the creator of the universe. “But as for me, I heard but did not understand; so I said, “My Lord, what will be the outcome of these events?” And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for these words will be kept secret and sealed up until the end time. Many will be purged, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand. But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will rest and rise for your allotted portion at the end of the age.”

Daniel 12:8-10, 13 NASB2020

Then Peter uses the transition therefore, saying that because the prophets were so faithful and did and said what they were asked by God to do and say, God used them for eternity. This is so encouraging. We as followers of Christ are doing work for a King that has an eternal plan. He is not temporal. We have the privilege and the chance to be part helping others achieve eternal peace in Christ. There is no greater encouragement.

Lord, we thank you for revealing to us in your time what you want us to do. Sometimes you just ask through the Holy Spirit in us, to do something that we do not understand, Help us to keep faith, the faith we need to do those things, so that your Kingdom can be advanced. Help us to seek to follow you and your word first no matter the cost. In Jesus name Amen…

Shalom, Shalom blessings and Press in and Press On!
