…but god… Episode 144
Transcript
“When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.”
Matthew 7:28-29 NASB2020
8 weeks we have been studying the sermon on the mount. The most relevant, the most poignant, the best and most authentic sermon ever spoken.
Matthew notes that while the scribes spoke about traditional interpretations and discussed and argued what they meant. Jesus spoke with authority because Jesus said “I say unto you” as He taught, telling everyone that He had authority.
Follow Christ says unto us! The best way we can do that is to listen and see what Jesus tells us in the Sermon on the Mount. Oxford dictionary describes a follower as an adherent or devotee of a particular person, cause, or activity. Unfortunately like so many other words social media has cheapened this word follower. Whether it’s twitter, instagram, tick tock or whatever, the question is now “How many followers does that person have?” So now the lexicon and vernacular of the word, follow has been demeaned to how many people think what you post might be worth looking at. No longer does the word mean to be devoted to a cause or a person.
Therefore, we must take back the meaning and redefine the word and say I am not just a believer, I am not just follower. We must say I am devoted, loyal, committed to the study of truly knowing (yada) Jesus as He knows us. That is what it means to be a follower of Christ and He accepts nothing less. Otherwise we are just lukewarm and this is what Jesus does with those who are lukewarm…“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Origin of the creation of God, says this: ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”
Revelation 3:14-16 NASB2020
Strong words but this is what our Lord and Savior expects of us if we want to truly be devoted to Him and His cause of forgiveness of sins and eternity with Him.
Lord thank you for your great and awesome words. Help us to truly seek to be as you want us to be, devoted followers seeking to truly know you. In Jesus Name we Pray Amen…
Shalom Shalom Blessings and Press In and Press On!
