…but god… Episode 204

“You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unscrupulous people and lose your own firm commitment, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:17-18 NASB2020
What a great way to finish off our study of the letters of Peter. Peter warns us. He says now that you know the evil one tries to seek and destroy your life. We must be on our guard. As we talked about, we need to know the word, use the power of the Holy Spirit and seek to serve through love. Doing these things will give us the strength we need to continue God’s calling and to repel the missiles of the evil one.
In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians he describes how we should be prepared, he called it the armor of God. “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having belted your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:11-17 NASB2020
To continue the metaphor from yesterday this is our uniform that allows us to play the game and to make plays. If we don’t prepare by putting on the uniform we won’t be able to perform. If we don’t perform as God has called us are we really following God? Therefore, let us put on the armor so we can do battle and make plays for the Lord our God. This is the way we defeat our enemy the devil.
Good and gracious Heavenly Father. We thank you for forgiveness and for eternal life with you. Help us to prepare for battle every day by putting on your armor and fighting for you against the evil ones schemes. Thank you for the strength you give us through the power of the Holy Spirit who resides in us. Help us to rely on it and thus heed your word and do your will. We pray this in Jesus most precious name Amen…
