…but god… Episode 193

2 Peter 1: 19-21

Transcript

“And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”

2 Peter 1:19-21 NASB2020

God’s word is infallible, it’s perfect, it’s right, it’s true, it’s unchallengeable, it’s unchanging and it’s eternal. When Peter explains “that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will…”Therefore, if anyone says I believe this is what scripture means and does not back it up with other scriptures taken in context, then they are a liar, a charlatan and are spreading false doctrine. Many times Jesus warns against these false prophets, He explains in Matthew 7; “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.”

Matthew 7:15-17 NASB2020

The gospel is easy. We are saved through grace alone which is Christ’s atoning death on the cross. We have eternal life with Jesus because He rose from the dead to conquer death.  That’s it, let us not complicate it.

Good and gracious Heavenly Father. You, Lord have made the gospel message pretty simple, help us to keep it simple and tell others about your saving grace and about what you have done in our lives. In Jesus Name Amen…
