…but god… Episode 5

Psalms 78: 1-8

Transcript

“Listen, O my people, to my instruction; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. We will not conceal them from their children, But tell to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done. For He established a testimony in Jacob And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers That they should teach them to their children, That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, That they may arise and tell them to their children, That they should put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments, And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God.”

Psalms 78:1-8 NASB1995

“For He established a testimony in Jacob And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers That they should teach them to their children…” Today we focus on verse 5. Let me just say upfront that I did not plan to go over this verse in advance of today. The reason I say that, is because today is our first day of school at San Antonio Christian School. I’m excited that I am charged with the teaching of our youth. I am so blessed that I get to teach about the History of Our Lord and His role in Western Civilization.

I actually end the year teaching about Israel and their role in Western Civilization. So this verse could not be more perfect for me today.

God set up his lineage through Abraham but he continued it through Isaac and he charged Jacob with the job of expanding His earthly lineage through Jacob’s 12 sons. He told Jacob to focus them on following God’s laws. God charged Jacob with telling his sons of the history and the glory of God. This was a huge undertaking and Jacob literally wrestled with God over this charge. He finally relented and followed God’s instructions.

Over the years I too have wrestled with God over the calling and charge over my life, of teaching of the children. Especially over the last couple of years. However, God has always said “stay the course, I have called you, and I will never leave you or forsake you.”

Therefore, I begin a new school year with renewed energy and strength knowing that I have been called to share the testimony of God in Christ Jesus to a new generation.

We are all called to share our testimony and be ready in season and out of season. Let us do this together so that we can change lives through the generations.

Thank you in advance for your prayers for me and my fellow teachers today. Those of you that receive this devotional who are teachers, know that I am praying for you as well.

Lord, thank you for calling me to not only teach and develop young minds, but also for calling me to a Christian School so that I can share your word and your impact upon the world. Help me this year to not miss those “divine appointments”, those “God instances” when I can share my testimony, share your story of blessings upon my life but also share the stories of blessings in the lives of my family and friends. Guide my fellow teachers to be able to do the same. Help us all to be mindful and prepared to share your story of the Gospel so that this generation and future generations may know, serve and follow you!

Blessings and Press In and Press On!
